Unit 2 Written Assignment English 2 What is the title of the text and what is the text about? I have decided to review the short story, Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver. The story is about a couple and their baby. The man is quietly packing his bags as the irate woman screams and curses at him. He seems to be attempting to ignore her until the bags are packed and the baby is brought into the occasion. The man never seems to get fierce until the very end when they are fighting over the baby. Physically fighting over the baby! The man obtained control of the baby and the woman tried to snatch the baby away from the man. The man held on tight and pulled back fiercely on the baby. The final sentence of the story states, â€Å"In this manner, the issue was decided† (Carver, 1981). The reader then interprets what happened to the baby. What is the author’s view? How do I know? The author presents a view which is tense and emotionally charged. This is foreshadowed through the author’s description of the darkness coming outside and the melting dirty snow. In the first paragraph Carver recognizes the darkness outside but also states, â€Å"it was getting dark on the inside too† (Carver, 1981).
